New Kadampa Survivors YAHOO group |

A new Yahoo group for former NKT members has been created. It's called New Kadampa Survivors, and can be found here . Membership is growing rapidly, and on average there are three new members a day. This Yahoo group is not associated with the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT). It is a place for former members to come and openly discuss what it was like being part of this sectarian cult. It is also a place where family and friends, of those who practice with the New Kadampa Tradition, can come and openly discuss their concerns for their loved ones. Whether you are a former member or have a loved one who still is, please feel free to share with others what your experiences where like practicing with the New Kadampa Tradition. So many of us who got involved with the New Kadampa Tradition got involved not knowing anything about their history. So many of us leave with our lives being totally devastated. Here is a forum for the people who have left to come and openly discuss how they got the courage to leave the New Kadampa Tradition, but more importantly how they got the courage to continue practicing Dharma without fear and without guilt that comes from practicing with a sectarian tradition.
Click here to join the group.

Letter from SERA MONASTERY |

from: http://www.newkadampa.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=38 (c) original article from: http://www.geocities.com/thubtengonpo/SeraLetter.html " When the Sera Monastery was transferred to south India from Buxa, Kelsang Gyatso left the monastery for Mussoorie (a hill station in theIndian state of Uttar Pradesh) and stayed there as a chronic T.B. patient. When he was picked up by the FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of the MahayanaTradition, found by the late Lama Yeshe) to go to England, he not only went there but he usurped the FPMT centre and made it his own NKT!! What does this demonstrate of the nature of this lean and hungry looking man in a religious garb? What does it smack of? Vulgarity or purity? On top of it he has used his stay in Mussorie as a publicity stunt as having “meditated in the Indian Himalayas for fifteen years”!!! "
" Kelsang Gyatso is not even a Geshe. The so called “third Buddha”is a figment of imagination conjured up by his fawning desciples as a propaganda tool to attract more people to his centre and that it should not go to his head."

Book Description
This book analyses the transplantation, development and adaptation of the two largest Tibetan and Zen Buddhist organizations currently active on the British religious landscape: the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) and the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives (OBC). The key contributions of recent scholarship are evaluated and organized thematically to provide a framework for analysis, and the history and current landscape of contemporary Tibetan and Zen Buddhist practice in Britain are also mapped out. A number of patterns and processes identified elsewhere are exemplified, although certain assumptions made about the nature of 'British Buddhism' are subjected to critical scrutiny and challenged. "The German Buddhist Union (DBU) has refused membership for the NKT main center in Germany and its 15 branch centersBuddhist Magazine "Ursache und Wirkung" No. 56, 2006, Austria. The Austria Buddhist Religious Association (ÖBR) gave a signal to NKT that NKT will have no chance to become a member of it. On the other hand, in some other countries the NKT is a member of Buddhist associations. In the Swiss Buddhist Union (SBU) NKT became a member but it is not allowed to send members to the executive committee. In 1998 NKT became a member of the British Network of Buddhist Organizations (NBO). Waterhouse notesWaterhouse 2000, Oliver Freiberger, Department for the Study of Religion University of Bayreuth, Germany [11], Kay page 213 when the NKT joined the British Network of Buddhist Organizations, about thirty percent of the other Buddhist groups identifying themselves with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition left the NBO." from the full article here: http://experts.about.com/e/n/ne/new_kadampa_tradition.htm |

"About 15 years ago, the Dalai Lama began to voice concern that the sect was gaining strength and sowing discord. Then, in 1991, a senior monk named Kelsang Gyatso established a new Dorje Shugden order based in England, calling it the New Kadampa Tradition. The NKT flourished by promising spiritual rewards for cash--an unholy sales pitch that helped trigger confrontation with the Dalai Lama's circle."
"the followers of the NKT have painted a hostile portrait of the Dalai Lama that is unrecognizable to mainstream Buddhists-indeed, to millions around the world who revere the Nobel Peace Prize winner and champion of Tibet."

"The centre has been approached by families and friends of some NKT members worried about personality changes among a number of people who join the group putting strain on relationships. Concerns have also been expressed about the depth of commitment members make within a relatively short time of contacting the NKT, and about the group's opposition to the Dalai Lama."

Dorje Shugden—a threat to the Fourteenth Dalai Lama’s life? |
|
|
|
|
".....It is true that in the year 1976 the Fourteenth Dalai Lama had already declared that he did not wish for his person to associated in any way with Dorje Shugden, especially because the worship of this “reactionary” spirit had come into conflict with three other dharmapalas (tutelary gods) which he revered highly, the oracle god Pehar, the terrible Palden Lhamo, and the protective god Dharmaraja. Rumors report of a dream of the Kundun in which Shugden and Pehar had fought with one another. On a number of occasions Pehar prophesied via the Nechung Lama that Shugden was attempting to undermine the sovereignty of the Kundun and thus deliver Tibet into the hands of the Chinese....." This is a very small extract from an amazing article about the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugdun, please read the full version online at: http://www.iivs.de/~iivs01311/SDLE/Part-2-07.htm
